Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, 22nd November 2010
Concordia celebrated 15 years of Building Bridges through Music and the Arts with a Gala Orchestral Concert at London’s Southbank Centre. With performances from distinguished Concordia Alumni and emerging young artists, the evening included special appearances from three young violinists from the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music.
As part of the Young Audiences Project, Concordia invited over 200 children from six East London schools to the final orchestral rehearsal. Not only were they treated to a performance of Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra presented by Paul Smith and Andrea Haines of VOCES8, but the children were also given the opportunity to perform a piece they had collectively written over the previous six weeks with the full symphony orchestra. Our guest for the afternoon was out Honorary Patron, Lady Barbara Bear.
“I am delighted to have been associated with Concordia for almost 13 years, first as a singer and more recently as a Trustee. So, I have first-hand knowledge of the tremendous work Concordia has done, the young artists it has encouraged and the joy it has brought to so many people around the world.” Colin Lee, international tenor who has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden is a Trustee of Concordia.
“It is a very great pleasure to take part in the Concordia Foundation’s Anniversary Gala Concert. For the past 15 years, Gillian and Peter have been tireless in their suppport of young artists the world over…It is a testament to them both that so many of these musicians now support the Foundation and are joining forces for this very special event.” Universally acclaimed as an outstanding conductor of light music and music for screen, Concordia Alumni John Wilson supported the evening as a guest conductor.
