
Katy Elman
Katy was born in 1987. She began playing the snare drum at the age of eight and soon won a place as a junior exhibitioner at The Guildhall School of Music, where her love for tuned percussion flourished. She then studied at The Purcell School with Lillian Simpson and Peter Beament and completed her fulltime education at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester where she was tutored by Paul Patrick, David Hext and David Hassel.
Katy has taken part in numerous master-classes including Evelyn Glennie, Graham Johns, Eric Sammut, N.J. Živković and world-renowned marimba virtuoso, Keiko Abe. She made her solo London debut at St. James Piccadilly at the age of 14 and subsequently played timpani and orchestral percussion in some of the country`s leading concert venues including The Bridge Water Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Symphony Hall and The Barbican. Most recently she premiered The Concerto for Marimba and Vibraphone, by the composer Tim Brice, in Manchester.
Katy has now taken up a scholarship award to study at The Guildhall School of Music, and is a performer with the Concordia Foundation with whom she has performed two recitals at St Martins in the Field. She was also a guest performer for the Star’s Foundation Christmas event where she performed along side such great actors as, Susan Jameson and David Suchet.
Katy has been the focus for a BBC documentary and performed live on BBC radio 3. She is currently very much in demand as a guest timpanist and percussionist with several orchestras based in London and the Home Counties.
