Performed
at the Purcell Room in London in February 1999 to celebrate the
Concordia Foundation's first bridge with Spain, the programme
featured the music of Granados, Rodrigo and Delfín Colomé
together with compositions by Gluck, Elgar and Costas Fotopoulus
whose Fantasie on Carmen was given its world première
at this concert.

"As
a veteran diplomat who has been working all over the world, I
am convinced that "building bridges" to create harmony
among peoples and nations is the main purpose of my job. For
that reason, when I learned of the motto of Concordia Foundation,
I immediately felt identified with this splendid objective of
using music to build bridges of understanding and friendship.
Nothing,
absolutely nothing, could be more satisfying to a diplomat -
such as myself - who is, at the same time, a musician." |
